Confirmation online? Yes! Last fall, a group of pastors, deacons, and youth directors came together to create some fresh confirmation material that could be used online, in-person, and/or as a hybrid approach, and that it is user-friendly! First, we created “Cafeteria Confirmation” about building resilient faith in students while facing one of the life’s hardest places: the school lunchroom.

Now, we have added to our work with “Tell Me A Story.” Check it out below:

Overview: Tell me a story, [insert caregiver’s name]? These are familiar words young children say to their parents, grandparents, or another caring adult. Childhood books shaped our minds and hearts as we learned about sharing, love, or manners. As older children, we turn to the stories of Jesus, and how these stories help us delve deeper into relationships, and love, and grace. In this Epiphany confirmation series, we will intertwine our favorite childhood books with what Jesus teaches us. Each session comes with a slideshow with video, leader’s page, and a parent’s page.

Session 1 – The Big Orange Splot by Daniel Pinkwater paired with when Jesus calls Levi in Luke 5:27-32. The plot is about how Jesus’ way is one of love over law. Curriculum developed by Nicole Mayer at Phiney Ridge Lutheran Church in Seattle, Washington.

Session 2 – A Giraffe and A Half by Shel Silverstein paired with the widow’s offering in Mark 12:21-44. The plot is not about how flashy you are or how much you have, but that you are giving from the heart. Curriculum developed by Heather Greenley at Central Lutheran Church in Edgerton, WI.

Session 3 – Tidy by Emily Gravette and the conversion story of Saul to Paul in Acts. The plot is about how things don’t always go as planned. You may even do a 180! Curriculum developed by Julie Klock at St Peter’s Lutheran Church in Northfield, MN.

Session 4 – God in Between by Sandy Eisenberg Sasso paired with the resurrection story of Luke24:1-12. The plot is about how throughout history, people have looked in grand places (palaces, mountains, seas) to find God.  But actually, God is usually found in between like in the still small voice and in the unexpected places. Curriculum developed by Pastor Krista Zimmerman at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church in Racine, WI.

Session 5 – Click, Clack, Moo, Cows that Type by Doreen Cronin/ Betsy Lewin paired with the persistent widow in Luke 18:1-8. The plot is that God is in persistant pursuit of us – our hearts and our lives. Curriculum developed by Deacon Billie Jo Wicks at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato, MN.

Session 6 – The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats paired with the road to Emmaus in Luke 24. The plot is about how amazing things can happen out on a walk. Curriculum developed by Pastor Amy Wiegert at Faith Lutheran Church in Homewood, IL.
