After Easter, we are not fooling around. It will be down to business with all ages learning at Good Shepherd. Using the Narrative Lectionary texts and FAITH5 (thanks Rich Melheim!) as the framework, kids, youth, and families are invited into 6 Sundays of Service. Check it out:

Sunday, April 8 (John 20:19-31) 

Share highs and lows.

Read John 19:19.

Talk about this verse and how the disciples were feeling. What does Jesus say to them? How do you feel when you are at peace? Remember, Jesus came to bring peace to the world. We, too, can share God’s peace with others.

Service Project: Cards rolled up with a piece of beef jerky for the US Troops in Kandahar.

Pray for peace in the world.

Sunday, April 15 (Acts 9:1-19a)

Share highs and lows.

Read Acts 19:1-19.

Talk about what happened to Saul on the road to Damascus? Who helped him? Talk about your last trip. Did anyone stop to help you when you needed help? Remember, Jesus came to walk beside God’s people through life’s journey. We, too, can walk beside others as we journey through life together.

Service Project: Making sandwiches for people experiencing homelessness. (Check out your local food shelf for instructions.)

Pray for the people who you meet, pass, and encounter this week.

Sunday, April 22 (Acts 16:16-34)

Share highs and lows.

Read Acts 16:16-34.

Talk about what in this verse is amazing: Is it that Paul and Silas are in prison? Is it that they are in prison singing hymns? Is it that they are in prison singing hymns when an earthquake strikes, and they are freed? Or all of the above? Remember, Jesus came to free all people from their burdens. We, too, can give freely to people.

Service Project: Welcome kits for Families Moving Forward. Kits include toothbrushes, toothpaste, socks, soap, shampoo, deodorant, laundry soap, kleenex, underwear, and small toys.

Pray for people who are imprisoned, people who sing, and people who freely give to others.

Sunday, April 29 (Acts 17:16-31)

Share highs and lows.

Read Acts 17:22-25.

Talk about what Paul saw as he walked around Athens? What did Paul tell the people of Athens about God? Remember, Jesus came to give people love and life. We, too, can share God’s love with others.

Service Project: Tie fleece or quilted blankets for the Linus Project

Pray for the families who will receive the blankets.

Sunday, May 6 (Philippians 1:1-8)

Share highs and lows.

Read Philippians 1:3.

Talk about the verse by each person naming an individual they would love to thank. Why? Paul thanked God for the people of Philippian church. We, too, can thank the people in our church.

Service Project: Rolling out pretzels

Pray for the people in your congregation (sick, hospice, hospitalized).

Sunday, May 13 (Philippians 2:1-13)

Share highs and lows.

Read Philippians 2:1-4,

Talk about the verse: What does Paul want us to do? What does Paul want us not to do? How can we be about the best interest of others? Remember, Paul encourages us to put others before ourselves. We can do this when we take the time to think, act, and reach out to others.

Service project: Cards and a potted plant for homebound members (Families along with the Lay Eucharistic Ministers are encouraged to visit an assigned homebound member and take them the potted plant and card.)

Pray for each homebound member by name.

Sunday, May 20 (Acts 2) – We will be celebrating the end of the school year with Pentecost storytelling outside, a bounce house and root beer floats.
